About

I’m Zainab, a software engineer, technical copywriter and poet based in London.

I’ve worked for several years as a front-end developer at Wonderbly and, before that, in the e-books team at HarperCollins Publishers; my career in digital publishing has situated my specialities somewhere between storytelling and code. I studied English Literature with Creative Writing at the University of Greenwich.

I adore the process of building online experiments where my sides of creativity intertwine, such as word-based toys and tools for learning Arabic. You can find them on my projects page.

My pamphlet, Ecstatic Motion, was published by Marble Poetry in 2020. My poems have appeared in magazines like The Fortnightly Review, Streetcake, Tears In The Fence and elsewhere, as well as several anthologies like Wretched Strangers from Boiler House Press.

In my writing, I'm drawn to imagery celebrating the richness and beauty of colours, nature, flowers, gemstones and cities. The concepts of faith, love and memory also recur in both free and formal verse.
